If 2014 was a pre-revolutionary moment in Scotland, then post – Brexit, the real thing will be with us soon. And that begs this question: how will the well dressed revolutionary be attired on the day when that World Historical moment arrives? – the day when Scotland finally joins the ranks of the free, equitable, peaceable, democratic and independent nations of northern Europe?
In this post I will give some consideration to this matter, and also, present various examples of revolutionary attire.
These Sandinistas are well set up for jungle warfare, no doubt about that. But the olive drab they’re wearing isn’t really a good fit with the rest of trendy Glesga hipster presentation (I’m thinking of purple or green hair on female cadres, and Victorian long beard/short haircut chic on the men). Indeed, these Sandinistas look better tricked out for the Republican National Convention.
The revolutionary attire featured here has this decided advantage: it is certainly Scotland specific, and in this respect it is a great leap forward (which setting up a sovereign wealth fund with North Sea oil would have been too, but never mind). Also, it pays homage to our ancient (Celtic) past, when our fierce ancestors painted themselves with woad before joining battle. But unfortunately, we have now exhausted the good points of this revolutionary uniform: it is unfortunately completely unsuited to our Scottish climate.
Ah! This is the one! HERE IT IS!
THIS is how I want to be attired on the day that I cast my ‘Yes’ ballot in the next Scottish independence referendum.
Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my ‘Scotland a Possible Nation’ tee!
Featuring Alasdair Gray’s FIRST EVER wearable art, Is Scotland a Possible Nation? tee shirts are 100 % cotton. Choose your size, cut (mens, ladies or kids), and colour. If you go for black, the image will be printed within a white frame, with the whole thing printed. If you choose white, then the white background will disappear.
Alasdair wants to see this image appearing all over Scotland in the run up to indyref2. Come on everybody! Let’s see 1000 ‘Possible Nation?’ teeshirts bloom all across Scotland, and across the diaspora too! To buy yours, see below.
Please support us! We are aiming to create a collaborative cultural event to honour Alasdair Gray. It won’t be the work of one of us, or of a few of us. It has to be the work of all of us.
